Acer Class (Year 3)

Welcome to Acer Class

We have an exciting year ahead of us exploring the themes planned. There will be many opportunities for the children to use a number of resources to investigate the themes, each with a different curriculum focus. We will endeavour to support their learning with interesting and exciting trips.

We will continue to work hard on developing our collaboration, reasoning and problem solving skills.

We will complete the homework set, practise our multiplication tables and find time to read for pleasure every day.

Our themes for 2018-2019 are:

  • Telegrams to Twitter – understanding more about the evolution of technology.
  • Greece Lightning – exploring Ancient Greece.
  • Creative Coughton – understanding more about our local surroundings and history.

To view a more detailed breakdown for these themes, please click on the class curriculum trees.

At the moment children need to have their full Forest School kit on Tuesday and PE kit on a Wednesday. Next term, they will need to bring in their PE kit on a Tuesday. Spellings will be set on Friday and spelling sentences are due in the following Thursday so that they can be marked.

What can you do to support your child?

All children should read for at least 20 minutes every day – this will be recorded in their planners.

Times tables also need to be revised to ensure that maths recall is finger-tip quick. Children can continue to progress through their Total Recall badges to ensure that these skills continue to be embedded. At the moment the children are working on their Bronze and Silver badges.

Here are some useful websites to support your child with their home learning:

Morfo: bringing to life characters both fictional and historical
Puppet Pals: Creating scenes and scenarios to support children’s understanding of historical events
Aurasma: linking videos and pictures to ‘tags’ in the children’s theme books
iMovies: Creating and editing movies and clips to record and document their learning
Scratch: Using coding to explore algorithms
