Oak (Year 5 & 6)
Welcome to Oak’s web page.
We have an incredibly exciting year ahead of us and will be working exceptionally hard throughout all of our themes!
Our themes for 2019-2020 are:
- Death by chocolate – learning about the Maya civilisation
- Tomb Raiders – learning about the Egyptians
- Creative Coughton – learning about our local surroundings
To view a more detailed breakdown for these themes, please click on the class curriculum trees.
Children will need to have their full PE kit on Tuesday. During the Summer Term, they will also need to bring in their Forest School kit. Spellings will be set on Friday and are due in the following Thursday so that they can be marked.
What can you do to support your child?
All children should read for 30 minutes every day – this will be recorded and rewarded for our in-class reading competition.
Times tables also need to be revised to ensure that maths recall is finger-tip quick. Children can continue to progress through their Total Recall badges to ensure that these skills continue to be embedded.
Here are some useful websites to support your child with their home learning:
Maths
https://www.prodigygame.com/ (all children have a log in)

There are also many apps that we use to enhance the learning experience of the children, below is a list of some of the apps we use regularly in class.
Morfo: bringing to life characters both fictional and historical
Puppet Pals: Creating scenes and scenarios to support children’s understanding of historical events
Aurasma: linking videos and pictures to ‘tags’ in the children’s theme books
iMovies: Creating and editing movies and clips to record and document their learning
Scratch: Using coding to explore algorithms
