Forest School

We are very lucky at Coughton CofE Primary because we have a superb forest school area with an open fire circle, a small woodland, mud kitchens, den building areas, plant and vegetable patches and an off site allotment area which is on local faming land. Our dedicated Forest School leader provides wonderful opportunities for our pupils to experience outdoor learning in the wider environment. Come rain or shine, children are encouraged to enjoy what nature has to offer.

Forest School is invaluable in developing and raising children’s self- esteem through child-led activities which support and encourage them to achieve.

These activities are linked to the skills and knowledge within our National Curriculum Learning  and give children memorable experiences in an outdoor setting that they can then apply in all of their learning. Through small achievable tasks, children begin to build resilience and have the confidence to risk-taking in a supportive yet challenging environment.

At Coughton C of E Primary School, we are extremely fortunate to have access to two forest school settings. Our own site, within the school grounds, and the beautiful, serene woodland at Coughton Court.

What equipment will your child need?

  • Wellies/walking boots
  • Long trousers (Waterproof trousers if possible)
  • Long sleeve T-shirt, sweatshirt, fleece top (Layers are best for colder days)
  • Spare socks
  • Hat (Depending on the weather)
  • Waterproof jacket (This is essential in case of rain)

Forest School is only cancelled due to high winds or electrical storms, so these clothes will get dirty.
